Stairs - good
When designing stairs we should be aware to provide napped tiles at the beginning and at the end of the stairs, so visual impaired people can orientate themselves where the stair starts and ends. The handrail of the stairs should start 50 cm before the first step and end 50 cm after the last step. The handrails should be continuous on both sides of the stairs and there shouldn’t be noses at the end of the steps for safety reasons. Using contrast also helps greatly.
Stairs - bad
Stairs are one of the biggest obstacles for people with visual impairments in a building. It is very important to make this as save as possible.
